GRASS ROOTS VIDEO SCREENING
Grass Roots: The Enduring Art of the Lowcountry Basket, produced by the Center for the Documentary at the College of Charleston, will have its premiere showing at the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival. Presented by director/editor Dana Sardet and historian/curator Dale Rosengarten, the film explores the current state of America’s oldest African-inspired art. Based on interviews with contemporary basket makers, the 30-minute documentary will accompany a nationally traveling exhibition that opens at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston on August 29, 2008, and will air on South Carolina ETV in September.
